About Verónica
My name is Verónica, and I’m a licensed architect with over 15 years of experience designing residential and commercial projects across three continents. I started Veronica Drafting and Design to bring professional architectural services to Halifax homeowners at prices typically reserved for drafting technicians.
I graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), one of Latin America’s premier architecture programs, and have been licensed to practice architecture in Mexico for over 15 years. My career has taken me to Ukraine, Scotland, France, Japan, and now Canada, where I’ve worked on diverse projects ranging from single-family homes to large institutional buildings.
For the past five years, I’ve been working in Canada, currently serving as senior designer at an established Halifax architectural firm. This position keeps me deeply engaged with Nova Scotia’s building codes, municipal requirements, and construction practices. I’m currently completing the required experience hours to obtain my architectural certification in Nova Scotia.
Why I Started This Practice
During my time in Halifax, I noticed something troubling: homeowners paying for drafting services that delivered blueprints but failed to secure building permits. Plans that looked good on paper but didn’t meet building code requirements. Clients stuck in expensive revision cycles, or worse, hiring new designers to start over.
The problem? Most drafting technicians can draw what you want, but they don’t have deep knowledge of building codes or the architectural training to design for permit approval from the start.
I saw an opportunity to offer something different: real architectural expertise focused specifically on building permit success, priced competitively with drafting services.
What Makes This Practice Different
📚 Building Code Expertise
As a working architect with daily involvement in Halifax’s architectural scene, I have intimate, practical, current knowledge of Nova Scotia’s building codes and municipal requirements.
🏛️ Architectural Training
Fifteen years of architectural education and practice means I understand not just how to draw buildings, but how to design them — structural systems, building envelope, life safety codes and all.
✅ Success-Based Payment
I don’t receive final payment until your building permit is approved. My success is tied directly to yours.
International Experience, Local Focus
My international career has given me exposure to diverse building systems, construction methods, and design approaches. But since moving to Halifax, my focus has been entirely on mastering Nova Scotia’s specific requirements.
I understand what Halifax building inspectors expect. I know which municipalities are strict about setbacks, which ones scrutinize structural submissions carefully, and where the common pitfalls are.
Structural Engineering Partnership
I work in close partnership with a structural engineer with over 40 years of experience in Nova Scotia. He provides the stamped letters your building permit requires — all coordinated seamlessly.
